Representative of China: Women’s issue is only a small part of Afghanistan’s problems

Kabul 24: At the same time as some officials expressed concern about China’s influence in Afghanistan, Yu Xiaoyong; China’s special representative for Afghanistan has stated in an interview on Sunday, 27th of Aqrab, that Beijing is not seeking to create a sphere of influence in Afghanistan.

He added: “Afghanistan should become a platform for cooperation of all parties, instead of becoming a geopolitical [competition] arena.”

Meanwhile, American officials have repeatedly expressed their concern over China’s growing influence in Afghanistan in the past three years.

The caretaker government has a close political and economic relationship with China.

After the withdrawal of American forces and the return of Afghanistan to power, China has tried to get involved in economic projects and mining, oil and gas contracts in Afghanistan.

This country has also established close political and diplomatic relations with Afghanistan and is one of the few countries that has accepted the ambassador of this group.

In a conversation with the Beijing International Dialogue Center, China’s special representative emphasized that China respects the independence, national sovereignty and territorial integrity of Afghanistan and will never interfere in the country’s internal affairs.

He added that China does not seek selfish interests in Afghanistan.

Yu Xiaoyong listed Afghanistan’s priorities as forming an inclusive government and adopting a national and moderate policy.

He also expressed concern about the presence of terrorist groups in Afghanistan and said: “Before the presence of the United States, one or two terrorist groups were active in Afghanistan, but now there are more than 20 terrorist groups in this country.”

In response to a question about the situation of women in Afghanistan, China’s special representative said: “The issue of women is only a small part of Afghanistan’s problems and is not the main cause of this country’s problems.”

He also criticized Western countries for what he called “double standards” and added: “In order to ensure human rights, the problem of poverty, hunger and famine in Afghanistan must be addressed.”

Yu Xiaoyong also announced that he is consulting with the ruling group in Afghanistan to provide humanitarian aid of 1 billion yuan from China.

He said that part of this aid will go to Afghanistan, as well as Pakistan and Iran, so that an arrangement can be made for the return of the migrants to their country.

He added that in the last three years, he has helped Afghanistan with 470 million yuan.

Yu Xiaoyong emphasized that by helping Afghanistan during this period, they have prevented the country from collapsing.

The special representative of China also commented on the performance of AHe defended himself in the last three years and said that during this time, Afghanistan has prevented the collapse and mass exodus of refugees with joint efforts and the situation is improving.

The senior diplomat of China also noted that AA has performed well in the field of controlling the situation, fighting against drugs, corruption and focusing on economic activities.

He asked America to accept the main responsibility for the sufferings and destructions of Afghanistan and emphasized their responsibility in rebuilding Afghanistan
