He says that he is now in danger of being killed by the Taliban because of his work with the UK.<\/p>\n<p>The pilot\u2019s application to the\u00a0Afghan Relocations and Assistance Policy\u00a0(ARAP) scheme was rejected on the grounds that he was not \u201cdirectly employed\u201d or \u201cin partnership\u201d with the UK government, armed forces or contractors.<\/p>\n<p>The UK government has said that it does not accept that the pilot\u2019s role had \u201cresulted in a high and imminent risk of a threat to [his] life\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The pilot\u2019s case has been condemned by military chiefs, politicians and celebrities, who have urged the government to offer him sanctuary.<\/p>\n<p>Over 55,000 people have signed The Independent\u2019s\u00a0petition\u00a0calling on the UK government to reconsider its decision.<\/p>\n<p>The UK government has said that it remains committed to protecting vulnerable and at-risk people fleeing Afghanistan, and that so far it has brought around 24,500 people to the UK.<\/p>\n<p>However, the pilot\u2019s case has raised questions about the government\u2019s commitment to those who worked alongside British forces in <a href=\"https:\/\/kabul-24.com\/en\/belarus-says-that-the-current-situation-in-afghanistan-is-a-threat-to-the-collective-security-treaty-organization\/\">Afghanistan.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Last month, the US government said it was\u00a0considering\u00a0the pilot\u2019s case if he is refused asylum in the UK<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A former Afghan Air Force pilot who worked with British forces in Afghanistan is facing deportation to Rwanda after his application for asylum in the UK was rejected.
