The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) says that nearly 2.9 million children will face acute malnutrition this year, and more than 850,000 of them need treatment.<\/h5>\n

Kabul 24<\/strong><\/a>: UNICEF adds that the European Union has recently donated 13 million euros to this organization and this money will be spent on the treatment of malnourished patients and education.<\/p>\n

In another part of UNICEF’s announcement, it is stated that with this 13 million euro donation, UNICEF will prepare 62,000 ready-to-use therapeutic food (RUTF) cartons and train 1,600 health workers to treat acute malnutrition among children under five years of age.<\/p>\n

In addition, UNICEF improves the quality of learning in 275 community-based primary education classrooms to enable 9,500 children (61 percent girls) to access primary education. This will include the training of teachers and management committees and the provision of school supplies.<\/p>\n

At the same time, the Ministry of Public Health reports that since the beginning of this year, 358,000 severe malnutrition cases have been registered across the country.<\/p>\n

Sharaf Zaman Amarkhel, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Public Health, said: “Since the beginning of 2024, three hundred and fifty eight thousand children with severe malnutrition have been registered, of course, one lakh eighty five thousand with moderate malnutrition have been registered and treated.”<\/p>\n

In the announcement of UNICEF, it is stated that 23.7 million people in Afghanistan<\/a>, more than half of whom are children, need humanitarian assistance this year.<\/p>\n
