The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has reported that severe flooding and violent windstorms have affected nearly 562,000 people across Yemen. Torrential rains have wreaked havoc, leaving thousands of families without shelter, clean water, or access to basic services.<\/h5>\n

Marib Governorate Suffers Extensive Damage<\/p>\n

Kabul 24:<\/strong><\/a> Marib Governorate has been particularly hard-hit, with strong winds since 11 August severely damaging 73 displacement sites and affecting over 21,000 households. Over 15,000 families in Hodeidah and 11,000 in Taiz were also left in desperate need of emergency support.<\/p>\n

Tragic Loss of Life and Destruction of Livelihoods<\/p>\n

The rains have led to tragic loss of life and have wiped out entire communities’ belongings and means of survival. Public services, including electricity networks, have been severely affected, aggravating the crisis in one of Yemen’s most vulnerable regions.<\/p>\n

IOM Launches USD 13.3 Million Appeal<\/p>\n

In response to this crisis, IOM has launched a USD 13.3 million appeal<\/a> to deliver urgent life-saving assistance. IOM teams are working around the clock to provide immediate relief to affected families, but the scale of destruction is staggering, and additional funding is urgently needed.<\/p>\n

Acting Chief of Mission Calls for Immediate Action<\/h5>\n

“Yemen is facing yet another devastating chapter in its relentless crisis, exacerbated by the intersection of conflict and extreme weather events,” said Matt Huber, IOM Yemen’s Acting Chief of Mission. “We must act immediately to prevent further loss and alleviate the suffering of those impacted.”<\/p>\n
