Sergei Shoigu, Secretary of the Security Council of Russia, spoke at a joint meeting of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) about positive and notable changes in Afghanistan.<\/h6>\n

Kabul 24<\/a>: While expressing concerns over the country’s security situation, he emphasized the importance of reintegrating Afghanistan into regional economic structures.Shoigu stated: “Significant changes have occurred in Afghanistan.<\/p>\n

As you know, Russia has recognized the Afghan government and continues to provide humanitarian aid to its people. Today, more than ever, integrating Afghanistan into regional economic systems is needed.” These remarks reflect Russia’s pragmatic approach to fostering stability through economic cooperation.<\/p>\n

At the same meeting, Imangali Tasmagambetov, Secretary-General of the CSTO, stressed the implementation of the program to strengthen security along the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border.<\/p>\n

He added that Afghanistan’s stability and development align with the interests of neighboring countries, especially CSTO members.<\/p>\n

Tasmagambetov said: “The country still has a long way to go to achieve political stability and prosperity. Considering these factors, implementing the intergovernmental program approved by our leaders in November 2024 to reinforce the Tajikistan<\/a>-Afghanistan border remains a fundamental task for the CSTO.” This initiative includes practical measures to prevent cross-border threats.<\/p>\n

Another key topic was the reduction of drug trafficking from Afghanistan to other countries. Shoigu announced that drug smuggling from the country has decreased significantly. This achievement can be attributed to joint regional efforts and improved border controls.<\/p>\n

The joint CSTO-CIS meeting provided an opportunity for greater coordination against shared challenges. Russia, as a key member, plays a leading role in promoting humanitarian aid and recognizing the Afghan government.<\/p>\n

The proposed economic integration involves infrastructure projects, trade, and energy initiatives that could contribute to sustainable development.<\/p>\n

The CSTO Secretary-General emphasized the need for continued regional support to lift Afghanistan out of isolation. Reducing drug trafficking not only enhances security but also benefits public health and the economies of neighboring states.<\/p>\n

Overall, the meeting sent a clear message: Afghanistan’s stability is the key to regional security. Russia and its partners are prepared to achieve this goal through economic and security tools.<\/p>\n

Implementing the Tajikistan<\/a>-Afghanistan border program is an immediate priority and could serve as a model for broader cooperation.These developments indicate a paradigm shift from confrontation to collaboration.<\/p>\n
