According to Tatar-Inform news agency, the Russian Trade Center in Afghanistan has announced that 2026 could become a landmark year for significantly strengthening trade and economic ties between the Republic of Tatarstan (Russia) and Afghanistan.<\/h6>\n

Kabul 24<\/a>: Rustam Khabibulin, Head of the Center, revealed plans for an official delegation from Tatarstan to visit Kabul in the near future.<\/p>\n

He stated that negotiations to establish an official trade representation office of Tatarstan in Afghanistan are actively ongoing.<\/p>\n

Khabibulin noted that several high-level delegations from the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, led by Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, have previously visited the capital of Tatarstan, Kazan, to hold extensive discussions on deepening bilateral cooperation.<\/p>\n

The head of the Russian Trade Center in Afghanistan also announced the launch of the \u201cRussia-Afghanistan Investment Council\u201d under the Center\u2019s framework.<\/p>\n

The main objective of this council is to facilitate joint investments, identify new business opportunities, and accelerate the overall development of economic relations between the two sides.<\/p>\n

The Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment views the expansion of ties with Tatarstan as highly beneficial for the national economy and as a valuable opportunity for the country\u2019s private sector.<\/p>\n

According to statistics released by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, the total trade volume between Afghanistan and the Russian Federation in 2025 reached 538 million US dollars.<\/p>\n

Of this amount, Afghan exports accounted for only 4 million dollars, while imports from Russia totaled 534 million dollars. These figures highlight the significant potential for increasing Afghan exports to Russian markets, particularly through cooperation with Tatarstan.<\/p>\n

In this context, on August 5, 2025 (14 Asad 1404 in the Afghan calendar), a high-ranking delegation from Tatarstan, led by Oleg Korobchenko, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade of Tatarstan, visited Kabul.<\/p>\n

During the visit, detailed discussions were held with senior officials of the Islamic Emirate on various topics, including investment opportunities in Afghanistan, the Kabul<\/a> water transfer project from the Panjshir River, and potential investments in the mining sector.<\/p>\n

Experts believe that Tatarstan\u2019s focused interest in the Afghan market, combined with its strategic position within the Russian Federation, could pave the way for a substantial breakthrough in bilateral trade relations, making 2026 the starting point for broader and more sustainable economic partnership.<\/p>\n
