$7 Million Iron Smelting Factory Opens in Herat, Aiming to Create Jobs for Returnee Migrants

A new iron smelting factory, built with an investment of approximately $7 million, has commenced operations in Herat province. The factory aims to bolster the local economy and provide job opportunities, particularly for migrants who have recently returned to the country.

Kabul 24: Khan Gul Ishaqzai, the factory’s owner, stated that the facility has a daily production capacity of 150 tons of rebar, meeting domestic market demands and potentially supporting exports to neighboring countries.

He highlighted that the factory has directly employed 150 individuals, significantly contributing to reducing unemployment, especially among returnee migrants. Ishaqzai emphasized that the primary goal of the project is not only to produce goods but also to improve livelihoods by creating sustainable job opportunities and strengthening the local economy.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Maulana Islamjar, the governor of Herat, expressed strong support for domestic production and local industrialists during the factory’s opening ceremony.

He urged investors to prioritize product quality over quantity, noting that high-quality goods can enhance the competitiveness of local products in regional markets and build consumer trust. The factory represents a significant step by the private sector to strengthen industrial infrastructure in Herat, reducing reliance on imported goods and boosting the regional economy.

With continued government support and further investments, such initiatives could serve as a model for other provinces, fostering sustainable development and broader employment opportunities.

The project is also expected to encourage more migrants to return and contribute to the country’s reconstruction efforts. This development underscores the potential for industrial growth in Afghanistan, offering hope for economic self-sufficiency and stability in the region
