Remembering the Era of Emergency and Upholding Democratic Values

Kabul24: Prime Minister Narendra Modi reflected on the dark era of Emergency in India’s history during his Mann Ki Baat radio broadcast.

He emphasized that the Emergency period was marked by atrocities committed against those who supported democracy. Asserting that India is the mother of democracy, he stated that the country holds democratic values and the Constitution supreme.

The prime minister highlighted the significance of remembering June 25, the day when the Emergency was imposed upon the nation in 1975 by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

India’s Resilience and Disaster Management Capability

In his radio address, PM Modi praised India’s increasing capability to handle natural disasters. He expressed confidence in the people of Kutch, assuring them that they would swiftly recover from the devastation caused by cyclone Biparjoy.

Referring to the earthquake that struck the region two decades ago, the prime minister acknowledged that doubts were raised about Kutch’s ability to bounce back.

However, he commended the resilience and determination of the people who successfully rebuilt their lives after the disaster.

India’s Progress in Disaster Management
PM Modi highlighted the significant improvement in India’s disaster management capabilities over the years, making it an example for others.

The recent landfall of cyclone Biparjoy near Jakhau resulted in widespread destruction in the Kutch and Saurashtra regions of Gujarat. Despite the challenges, the prime minister assured the nation that the government is committed to supporting the affected areas and facilitating their recovery.

International Yoga Day and the Prime Minister’s Appeal

The prime minister mentioned that he would be traveling to the United States the following week and would have the opportunity to participate in the International Yoga Day program at the UN headquarters in New York.

He appealed to all citizens to adopt yoga as a part of their daily routine, recognizing its numerous physical and mental health benefits.
