Pakistan arrests prominent Pashtun rights activist for alleged attack on police

Security forces in Pakistan have confirmed the arrest of Manzoor Pashteen, the leader of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement, after an exchange of gunfire with authorities.

Kabul 24: According to the Express Tribune, Raja Athar Abbas, the Deputy Commissioner, reported on Monday, December 4, that Pashteen was apprehended in the Chaman district when armed individuals from his vehicle opened fire on a police car.

After the gunfire exchange, law enforcement and police swiftly responded to the scene, successfully detaining Pashteen in the Chamman district.

Meanwhile, Jan Achakzai, the Information Minister of Balochistan, noted that Pashteen had delivered a speech during the Chaman strike without government approval, labeling the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement as an anti-government organization.

According to Achakzai, four individuals sustained injuries due to the shooting by Pashteen’s guards.

Last year, Punjab police charged the head of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement with treason and terrorism following his anti-establishment speech at the Asma Jahangir Conference.

As of today, the media section of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement has reported on the shooting by Pakistani security forces on Mr. Pashteen’s convoy of vehicles.
