A senior member of the UK Special Forces has provided information to British police regarding alleged war crimes committed by the Special Air Service (SAS) in Afghanistan.
Kabul 24: The whistleblower has handed over a safe containing documents, including witness accounts from serving soldiers, emails to Number 10 warning of the crisis, and diaries of police investigators.
The source was responsible for the SAS’s overseas operations between 2009 and 2013, the period during which the alleged war crimes took place.
Calls for Accountability and Compensation
Mohammad Asif Faqiri, a lawyer, has stated that the perpetrators should be punished in their own country for the crimes they have committed, and the British government should compensate the relatives of those who were killed.
Aziz Maaraj, a political analyst, has said that for the past 40-45 years, both Eastern and Western blocs have instigated wars in Afghanistan, all of them committing war crimes, and it is up to the legitimate and legal government of Afghanistan to seek compensation through international courts.
Islamic Emirate’s Response
The Islamic Emirate has not recently commented on this issue, but the spokesman for the Islamic Emirate had previously stated that they do not believe in the partiality of these investigations and that the British Army conducts fabricated research to justify its crimes and divert public attention.
Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesman for the Islamic Emirate, said that the crimes committed in Afghanistan are more extensive than what is being reported and started not from 2010 but from 2001 to 2020, and this matter requires an impartial body and impartial investigation, as well as precise accountability.
Victims’ Families Demand Justice
Some relatives of the victims of the alleged war crimes committed by foreign forces in the country are demanding compensation and justice for the victims.
Janan, a resident of Uruzgan, said that his family has been made to cry and many in their village have been martyred, and they demand the trial of the perpetrators.
Sayed Wali, another resident of Uruzgan, said that many innocent people have been martyred, and they demand compensation and the trial of foreign forces.
British Government’s Response
The British government initiated a study called “The Independent Inquiry relating to Afghanistan” in February 2023 to investigate these allegations.
