Uzbek Railway Officials Reduce Tariffs to Boost Trade and Support Afghan Businessmen
Kabul 24: Uzbekistan railway officials in Termez city have announced a significant reduction in the cost of Uzbekistan-Hairatan rail transport tariffs by 50 percent. This move aims to facilitate and expand trade relations between the two countries and support Afghan businessmen.
Tariffs Previously Charged
Prior to this reduction, specific tariffs were charged for shipments coming from the Afghan government. For example, goods brought in over Friendship Bridge were charged $200 for a 40-ton wagon and $100 for a 20-ton wagon.
Additionally, different amounts had to be paid at customs based on different services. However, with the new initiative, all payments up to $500 have been waived until the end of the year, according to Farhad, head of Termez railway.
Afghan Traders Welcome Initiative
Afghan traders in Balkh have welcomed Uzbekistan’s initiative and the creation of facilities in the rail transport sector. However, they have urged the Islamic Emirate to create more facilities to enhance the efficiency of the rail transport system. Balkh railway officials also emphasized the need for better facilities to ensure a smooth transfer of goods and increase transfers.
Efforts to Start Afghan-Trans Railway Line
Efforts are underway to start practical work on the Afghan-Trans railway line, which will begin in Uzbekistan and end in Pakistan. This project aims to further enhance trade and economic ties between the two countries.
Overall, the reduction in tariffs and the creation of facilities in the rail transport sector are expected to have a positive impact on trade and economic relations between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan
