The German government is considering deporting Afghan and Syrian migrants who have committed serious crimes, despite the ongoing conflicts in their home countries. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated that “serious criminals and terrorists have no place here” and that the government will tighten deportation regulations.
Kabul 24: This comes after a recent attack in Mannheim by an Afghan refugee that resulted in the death of a police officer.However, the proposal has faced backlash from rights groups and advocates, who argue it would violate asylum-seekers’ human rights and go against Germany’s constitution and international commitments.
The German Interior Minister has said negotiations are underway with “various countries” to facilitate these deportations, potentially through third countries like Uzbekistan.
Meanwhile, the Taliban’s Foreign Ministry has expressed readiness to negotiate with Germany regarding the deportation of refugees, but stated that refugees should not be deported to regional countries. Some German politicians have also called for discussions with regional countries like Pakistan about the deportation of Afghan refugees
