India granted citizenship to 20 Sikh citizens of Afghanistan

Indian media have reported that the country’s government has announced that it has granted citizenship to 20 Sikh citizens of Afghanistan.

Kabul 24: The Hindu newspaper reported on Monday, 22 Asad, that these Afghan Sikh citizens had applied for online visa about 100 days ago.

According to the report, the citizenship of these people has been granted under the amended Indian Citizenship Act.

Some of these applicants had “returned” to India in 1997 and were living on long-term visas, the report said.

In 2019, India passed the Citizenship Act, which facilitates the granting of citizenship to Hindus from Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.

This is despite the fact that most of the Sikh citizens of Afghanistan have left the country in recent years due to the fear of insecurity
