China and Belarus have agreed to enhance cooperation across multiple sectors, including trade, security, energy, and finance, as outlined in a recent joint communique.

Kabul 24: Belarus announced plans to sign a free trade deal with China focused on services and investment. This agreement aims to establish “transparent and predictable rules,” potentially increasing Belarusian exports to China by 12% and Chinese investments in Belarus by 30% over the next five years.

High-Level Meetings

Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang’s visit to Belarus included discussions with President Alexander Lukashenko, following his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. The Belarusian presidency emphasized the historic nature of the upcoming agreements, particularly the free trade zone.

Geopolitical Context

Belarus faces Western sanctions due to its support for Russia’s military actions in Ukraine. This partnership with China is seen as a crucial economic lifeline amid increasing reliance on Moscow for support.
