A Turkish drone strike on August 11 killed three members of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) in northern Iraq, according to Iraqi Kurdistan’s counter-terrorism service.
Kabul 24: The drone targeted a vehicle belonging to the PKK near Sulaimaniya, striking at approximately 15:30 local time. Among the deceased were a senior PKK member, his driver, and a guard. This incident marks the fifth drone attack in the region within a week, highlighting Turkey’s intensified military operations against the PKK, which has been in conflict with the Turkish state since 1984.
Ongoing Military Campaign
Turkey frequently conducts airstrikes in northern Iraq, targeting PKK positions as part of a broader strategy to combat what it labels as terrorism. The PKK is recognized as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US, and the EU. The recent escalation in airstrikes has raised concerns about civilian safety, as attacks have increasingly occurred near populated areas and major roads.
