Officials in Badakhshan Provincial Hospital say that since the beginning of this solar year, nearly 30 children have died due to malnutrition in this province.
Kabul 24: According to officials, in the past five months, nearly 2,700 children under the age of five have visited this hospital, and more than 350 of them have suffered from malnutrition.
Abdul Malik Rufi, the head of Badakhshan Provincial Hospital’s information system, said: “We had 2,696 children under the age of five hospitalized, among them, 365 were malnourished, and 26 of them died.”
A number of patients consider poverty, poverty, and unhealthy nutrition as the causes of their children contracting this disease, and they want the caretaker government and aid agencies to address their economic challenges.
Doctors consider lack of healthy food, lack of access to health centers and lack of proper counseling as the main causes of malnutrition among children.
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) says that nearly 2.9 million children will face acute malnutrition this year, and more than 850,000 of them need treatment.
Meanwhile, UNICEF adds that the European Union has recently donated 13 million euros to this institution, and this money will be spent on the treatment of malnourished patients and education.
In another part of UNICEF’s announcement, it is stated that with this 13 million euro donation, UNICEF will prepare 62,000 ready-to-use therapeutic food (RUTF) cartons and train 1,600 health workers to treat acute malnutrition among children under five years of age.
In addition, UNICEF improves the quality of learning in 275 community-based primary education classrooms to enable 9,500 children (61 percent girls) to access primary education. This will include the training of teachers and management committees and the provision of school supplies
