After Germany, Austria also deports Afghan immigrants with criminal records

The Austrian Federal Office for Migration and Asylum has said that due to the change in the security situation in this country, the deportation of immigrants to Afghanistan is allowed on a case-by-case basis.

Kabul 24: Austria has coordinated with Germany in this regard and has announced that it plans to start deporting Afghan nationals with a criminal record to their country soon.

This action takes place after Germany deported 28 Affan immigrants with a history of “criminal convictions” on Friday and sent them back to their country.

In this regard, Vienna has announced that it plans to work closely with Berlin to carry out coordinated and joint deportations.

In this context, Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehmer says: “The Minister of the Interior has long started a conversation with his German counterpart to solve the problem of how to deport immigrants to Afghanistan, because Austria has also decided to deport Afghans and Syrians (provided they have a criminal record).” has taken “Now the next step is to be able to send people back directly to Afghanistan or Syria.”

Austrian Interior Minister Gerhard Karner also described Germany’s decision to deport Afghan immigrants as a “right and good” thing.

In this regard, last March, he called for a discussion regarding the necessity and urgency of revising the ban on deporting migrants to Afghanistan and Syria throughout the European Union.

The Minister of the Interior of Austria said during a meeting in Brussels: “Currently, we are not able to return anyone to countries like Syria or Afghanistan, because this is considered against the laws of the European Union.”

In this context, he mentioned that at least three-quarters of the asylum requests in Austria are related to the citizens of Afghanistan and Syria.

The Austrian Federal Office for Migration and Asylum had previously announced that deportations to Afghanistan will be allowed from now on due to the change in the security situation in this country.

The evaluation made in this regard by the immigration authorities of Austria was also approved by the Constitutional Court of this country in July.

According to the Austrian Federal Office of Immigration and Asylum, more than 21,000 Syrians and about 9,000 Afghan citizens have applied for asylum in this country in 2023
