The Minister of Interior of Iran demanded the expulsion of Afghan immigrants from this country and announced that Afghans should go and settle their own country.
Kabul 24: Iskander Momeni; The Minister of Interior of Iran called on Afghan immigrants living in Iran on the evening of Monday, 19th of September, “to go and work in their own country and settle there.”
Momeni said in a TV program about the so-called “Organization of Foreign Nationals” project: “Iran cannot afford this amount of immigration.”
He added: “The priority is with those who enter illegally and without permission. It is the same in the whole world and immigrants must respect the mechanism of the host country.
Iran’s interior minister blamed Afghans for the increase in unemployment in Iran and said: “Many job opportunities are being taken away.” He added that he expects Afghan immigrants to return to their country.
Four days ago, Momeni announced that the comprehensive plan for the organization of Afghans in Iran will be compiled and implemented soon.
“This comprehensive plan will be implemented with a proper program and consideration of regional and neighborhood considerations,” he said.
Mehr news agency reported that Iran’s interior minister emphasized the necessity of organizing Afghans in Iran last Thursday during a visit to Seng Siah neighborhood of Shiraz.
Momeni, who was recently appointed as Iran’s interior minister, had announced in the parliament meeting that his first step would be to deport illegal immigrants without permission.
He did not provide details about the comprehensive plan for Afghans in Iran.
Meanwhile, Mr. Momeni emphasized in the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Islamic Council of Iran in Asad, when he was not yet the Minister of Interior, that the solution to prevent the entry of immigrants is to close the borders.
Momeni announced at that time that he will plan for the implementation of this plan.
In his television interview, he also emphasized the need to block the borders in an integrated manner, and announced the beginning of the work of the armed forces to block the entire borders of Iran.
