Chinese Hackers Breach U.S. Court Wiretap Systems

Chinese hackers have reportedly infiltrated the networks of major U.S. broadband providers, including Verizon Communications, AT&T, and Lumen Technologies.

Duration of Access

The hackers may have maintained access to these networks for several months, potentially compromising sensitive data related to lawful U.S. requests for communications information. They also reportedly accessed various segments of internet traffic45.

China’s Response

China’s foreign ministry has not commented on the allegations but has historically denied accusations of state-sponsored hacking. Officials claim that such narratives are fabricated by the U.S.67.

Intelligence Gathering Focus

The cyberattack is attributed to a Chinese hacking group known as “Salt Typhoon,” aiming to gather intelligence. This incident follows earlier disruptions of another group, “Flax Typhoon,” amid ongoing tensions over cyber espionage between the U.S. and China345.
