Official Visit of Afghanistan’s Public Health Minister to India: A Step Toward Enhanced Bilateral Cooperation

Mawlawi Noor Jalal Jalali, Minister of Public Health of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, arrived in New Delhi on December 16, 2025, leading a high-level delegation at the official invitation of the Indian government.

Kabul 24: This marks his first official visit to India and the third ministerial-level trip from Afghanistan in the past three months, following visits by Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi and Minister of Industry and Commerce Nooruddin Azizi.

The Afghan Ministry of Public Health stated that the multi-day visit aims to strengthen bilateral health cooperation, exchange experiences, and coordinate joint programs.

During the trip, Minister Jalali will hold separate meetings with senior Indian officials, particularly in the health sector, and participate in pre-scheduled events.

Key discussion topics include capacity-building for Afghan health workers, importing standard medicines and advanced medical equipment to Afghanistan, and other related issues to improve the country’s healthcare system.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs extended a warm welcome, with spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal noting that the visit reflects India’s enduring support for Afghanistan’s healthcare sector and anticipation for productive discussions.

India has long been a key partner in Afghanistan’s health initiatives, providing humanitarian aid such as vaccines, medicines, and support for medical infrastructure projects.

This engagement comes amid ongoing challenges in Afghanistan’s public health system, including shortages of equipment and supplies.

The visit opens a new chapter in practical cooperation between the two nations, building on historical ties and India’s commitment to humanitarian assistance.

Experts view it as a positive signal for broader bilateral relations, potentially leading to improved access to quality healthcare for Afghans and greater collaboration in addressing regional health concerns. As tensions persist in the region, such diplomatic exchanges highlight opportunities for constructive dialogue.

Afghans hope the outcomes will translate into tangible improvements in healthcare delivery across the country.
