40% Surge in Iran-Afghanistan Trade; Borders Remain Fully Open

Iran’s Consul General in Herat, Ali-Reza Marhamati, announced at a press conference that bilateral trade between Iran and Afghanistan continues to grow significantly despite ongoing military tensions in the region.

kabul 24: According to Marhamati, even with heavy U.S. and Israeli airstrikes targeting parts of Iran, the shared borders remain completely open and operational.

Thousands of tons of commercial goods are crossing daily via both road and rail routes into Afghanistan. He stated: “Trade with Afghanistan is proceeding normally. Borders are open, and all transit goods destined for Afghanistan are being transferred without any restrictions.

According to the latest figures, more than 1,300 vehicles cross between the two countries every day without any issues.”The Herat Chamber of Commerce and Investment reports that trade volume with Iran has increased by nearly 40% in recent days. Chamber officials emphasize that the conflict inside Iran has so far had no negative impact on commercial exchanges between the two neighbors.

Mohammad Yousuf Amin, Executive Director of the Herat Chamber of Commerce and Investment, said: “The daily flow of commercial goods through the Islam Qala border crossing and the Herat–Khaf railway continues uninterrupted.

No problems have been reported in this regard to date.”A substantial portion of raw materials required by Herat’s industrial zone is sourced from Iran or transited through Iranian territory.

Mohammad Naser Amin, Head of the Herat Chamber of Industries and Mines, confirmed: “Most of the raw materials and goods needed by the industrial zone come from the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Even if Iran has restricted exports to some countries, shipments to Afghanistan continue as usual.”Since Pakistan closed most border crossings with Afghanistan, Iran has become the country’s primary trade corridor for both imports and exports.

This shift has dramatically increased Afghanistan’s economic dependence on its western neighbor, turning the Iran–Afghanistan border into a vital lifeline for Afghan commerce.Despite intense aerial attacks on Iran and the resulting regional instability, authorities on both sides stress that trade not only persists but is actually expanding.

This resilience highlights the strength of economic ties between the two neighboring countries during a period of serious crisis and may open the door to further cooperation in the future.
