Over 9,000 Families Displaced in Kunar Province Due to Pakistani Rocket Attacks

More than 9,000 families in Afghanistan’s eastern Kunar province have been forced to flee their homes following repeated rocket and artillery attacks by Pakistan’s military.

kabul 24: Local officials report that the shelling, concentrated in areas near the Durand Line, has severely disrupted daily life and caused significant psychological distress among residents.Najiullah Hanif, Head of Information and Culture in Kunar, stated: “More than nine thousand families have been displaced.

So far, around three and a half thousand families have been surveyed, and the assessment process is ongoing. People are leaving their homes due to the ongoing conflict.”Many residents have moved to safer locations further from the border, while only a small number remain in their villages to guard their properties and lands.

Abdullah, a resident of Kunar, described the situation: “Because of Pakistan’s indiscriminate shelling, children cannot go to school. We cannot even go to the mosque to pray.

This has created serious problems for us.”In the past 24 hours, according to local officials, Pakistani forces fired 93 rockets in Sarkano, 35 in Manogai (or Manwara), and 20 in Nari district.

These attacks have caused extensive damage to agricultural lands, orchards, and civilian properties.Although the scattered shelling has already displaced thousands of families and inflicted human and material losses, residents say they are now also facing severe mental health challenges due to the constant fear and insecurity.

The assessment of displaced families’ needs has begun, and local authorities are working to provide urgent humanitarian assistance, including food, shelter, and psychological support. This prolonged cross-border tension has turned border areas into zones of fear, halting education, religious activities, and normal economic life.

Many families are living in temporary and inadequate conditions, awaiting further aid.The continued rocket attacks risk worsening the humanitarian crisis in Kunar and neighboring provinces. Officials emphasize the urgent need for comprehensive support to prevent further deterioration of the situation for the affected population.
