Badakhshan Officials Visit Argo to Address Protesters’ Demand

Protesters Claim Destruction of Crops and Property

Local authorities from Badakhshan have visited the Argo district to investigate and hear the demands of protesters.

Kabul24 :  Protesters claim that their wheat fields, garden walls, and houses have been destroyed by security forces under the pretext of eradicating poppy fields.

Ghulam Rasool, a representative of the protesters in the Darayim district, said that even apple trees were flattened by tractors.

Protesters Demand Justice and Proper Eradication of Poppy

Protesters are demanding that the government ensure justice and deploy other forces to destroy the poppy fields in a proper manner.

Hafizullah, another representative of the protesters in the Argo district, said the team that carried out the eradication should be replaced, and a new team should come to continue the process.

Abdul Hamid, a religious scholar, said that those involved in drug trafficking and production must be eradicated.

Local Officials Assure Addressing Protesters’ Demands

Mohammad Amin Taib, the deputy governor of Badakhshan, said the meeting with tribes, scholars, and influencers was successful and satisfied the people

Hamdullah Fetrat, the deputy spokesman for the Islamic Emirate, stated that the situation is under control and the fight against drugs is ongoing.

Violent Protests Result in Casualties

Protests in the districts of Argo and Darayim turned violent on Friday and Saturday, leading to the death of two people due to security forces firing at the protesters.
