The Afghanistan Embassy in Pakistan has expressed deep concerns over the situation of Afghan returnees entering Afghanistan through the Torkham and Chaman border crossings.
Kabul 24: In a newsletter published on Wednesday, November 1, the embassy stated that they are highly worried about the challenges arising from the recently announced policy of forcibly deporting Afghan refugees from Pakistan.
The embassy added that as a result of this policy, a criminal network has emerged in Pakistan, extorting Afghan refugees and subjecting them to various forms of harassment and persecution under different pretexts.
According to the newsletter, Pakistani security forces have also detained legal immigrants on various pretexts and confiscated their documents.
The newsletter stated: “We urge the Pakistani authorities to promptly halt the forced deportations and harassment of Afghan refugees, which adversely affect the relations between the two countries so that people can willingly leave Pakistan.”
This comes as Pakistani media reported the initiation of detentions of immigrants without proper legal documentation by the police in the country.
The deadline set by the Pakistani government for immigrants without legal documents in the country expired on Tuesday, October 31.
