Death of Afghan Migrant’s Newborn in Zahedan Camp Due to Neglect

The death of a newborn in the Zahedan deportation camp has once again drawn attention to the dire situation of Afghan migrants in Iran.

Kabul 24: An Afghan man, recently deported from Iran, recounted a heartbreaking incident with tears in his eyes. He said that in the Zahedan camp, an Afghan woman gave birth under completely inhumane conditions without access to medical facilities.

The man, who witnessed the event, pleaded with the camp’s director to address the woman’s situation, but his requests were ignored.

He stated that after a delay of two to three hours, an ambulance arrived, but it was too late, and the child had already passed away. This incident is just one example of the suffering endured by Afghan migrants in Iran.

The wave of mass deportations, which has intensified following recent regional tensions, has faced widespread criticism.

Reports indicate that violent actions by Iranian police, including slapping migrants, tearing up their identity documents, and widespread detentions, have worsened the situation.

Many migrants, even those who have lived in Iran for years, live in fear of forced deportation and humiliating treatment under unsafe conditions.

The Afghan man, with grief and anger, said: “England, Jews, and Christians have more honor than Iran,” a statement reflecting the depth of his despair and frustration over the neglect and injustices faced by migrants.

Human rights organizations, including the International Organization for Migration, have warned that forced deportations, especially of families and children, are creating a humanitarian crisis at the Iran-Afghanistan border.

It is reported that over 450,000 Afghan migrants have been deported from Iran in the first five months of 2025 alone, many of whom are transferred to camps like Zahedan under inhumane conditions.

The lack of access to basic medical facilities, inhumane treatment, and absence of oversight in these camps have sparked widespread criticism of Iran’s migration policies.

Human rights activists have called for an immediate halt to deportations and urgent attention to the plight of migrants, while a growing wave of negative sentiment against Iranian police on social media has labeled these incidents as clear violations of human rights.
