The Prisons Administration has announced that 1,500 children in the country’s Juvenile Rehabilitation Centers are currently receiving both religious and modern education. This initiative has been implemented across 34 provinces, with 333 children in the Kabul Juvenile Rehabilitation Center alone.
Vocational Training in Five Areas
Kabul 24: In addition to education, detainees in these centers are also receiving vocational training in five areas. This comprehensive approach aims to equip the children with skills to help them reintegrate into society upon release.
Transformation of Prisons and Juvenile Rehabilitation Centers
The Prisons Administration has transformed prisons and Juvenile Rehabilitation Centers into educational centers over the past three years. Continuous lessons are ongoing for prisoners in provincial or central prisons, with the goal of reform rather than punishment.
Detainees Express Gratitude
Detainees have expressed their gratitude for the educational facilities provided in the centers. Usman, a detainee, said he was able to memorize the Quran in just ten months and regretted his past actions outside. Haseeb, another detainee, thanked the Ashiana organization for the facilities and learned the tailoring profession.
Over 20,000 Prisoners Currently in Custody
According to the Prisons Administration, more than 20,000 prisoners are currently in various prisons across the country for different crimes. The establishment of educational centers in prisons is seen as a positive step towards rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates into society.
