End of Rosa Otunbayeva’s Mission; Islamic Emirate Stresses UN’s Positive Role

As Rosa Otunbayeva’s tenure as the UN Special Representative in Afghanistan concludes, the Islamic Emirate expresses hope that the United Nations will play a positive and significant role in the country.

Kabul 24: Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate, emphasized the need for equal treatment of Afghanistan by the international community, urging the UN to facilitate legitimate global interactions.

In an interview with Tolo News, Mujahid stated, “We want the United Nations to play an effective and positive role, fostering closer ties between Afghanistan, international organizations, and other countries, with analyses and assessments grounded in objective realities.”Since September 2022, Otunbayeva has served as the head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) in Kabul, undertaking one of the most challenging global missions.

Over the past three years, her work has focused on three key areas: delivering humanitarian aid, addressing human rights issues, and promoting political engagement between the Islamic Emirate and the international community.

The UN Security Council is scheduled to hold a meeting on Afghanistan on September 17, where Otunbayeva will present her final report. This report is expected to influence future UN policies regarding Afghanistan.

Prior to her role in Afghanistan, Otunbayeva was a prominent figure in Central Asian politics. She served as President of Kyrgyzstan from 2010 to 2011 and held the position of Foreign Minister on multiple occasions. Her extensive diplomatic experience made her well-suited for this critical mission.

The Islamic Emirate hopes the UN will continue its constructive presence in Afghanistan, contributing to improved international relations and addressing ongoing challenges.

Meanwhile, the global community continues to stress the importance of upholding human rights principles and fostering transparent engagement with the Islamic Emirate.
