Fire at Entertainment Venue in Western India Claims at Least 24 Lives

At least 24 people, including many children, lost their lives in a devastating fire that broke out on Saturday evening at a family entertainment venue in the Rajkot district of Gujarat, a western state in India.

Kabul 24: The incident occurred at the TRP game zone, where a massive fire engulfed the entire structure, leaving it completely gutted.

Rescue Efforts Ongoing, Death Toll Expected to Rise

According to a government official, rescue operations are still underway at the scene, and the local mayor, Nayana Pedhadiya, has stated that the death toll is likely to increase.

“Our focus is on rescue operations and saving lives. We will ensure strict action is taken against the people who are responsible for this incident,” Pedhadiya said.

Charred Bodies Recovered, Cause of Fire Yet to Be Determined

Television images showed thick clouds of smoke emanating from the site, and a police official at the local civil hospital revealed that some of the recovered bodies were charred beyond recognition. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, according to IV Kher, the district’s chief fire officer, who also stated that firefighters had almost brought the blaze under control.

Prime Minister Expresses Grief, Investigation Launched

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media platform X to express his condolences and stated that the local administration was working to provide assistance to those affected. “Extremely distressed by the fire mishap in Rajkot. My thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones,” Modi said in his post.

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has ordered a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to look into the incident, and television reports indicate that two people have been detained by Rajkot police in connection with the tragedy.
