Fasihuddin Fitrat, the chief of staff of the Islamic Emirate, visited Badakhshan Province to address the grievances of protesters reacting to the security forces’ actions in destroying their poppy fields.
Kabul 24: Fitrat stated that the controversy and demonstrations were due to misunderstandings, which have now been properly resolved through discussions with the representatives of the protesters.
The government has reached an understanding with the residents of the area, and the matter involving the heirs of the two individuals who were killed has also been settled.
Protesters End Demonstrations
The representatives of the protesters, Obaidullah from Darayim district and Mohammad Muzarab from Argu District, confirmed that they have ended their protest following discussions with the officials of the Islamic Emirate.
Obaidullah stated that there is no opposition between the nation and the Islamic Emirate, and no one can influence the area based on their political desires from outside.
Muzarab said that the incident between the security forces and the people of the district was a misunderstanding, and the recent meeting went very well.
Poppy Field Destruction Sparks Protests
Residents of Argu and Darayim districts in Badakhshan Province had protested on Friday and Saturday against what they considered the destruction of their poppy fields, resulting in two deaths.
However, the security forces stated that they have destroyed the poppy fields, which led to the protests.
The negotiations between the Islamic Emirate officials and the representatives of the protesters have successfully resolved the misunderstandings and ended the demonstrations in Badakhshan Province.
