Kabul 24: The statement emphasized that Kabul has always sought to strengthen relations with Moscow. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its determination to further expand and strengthen positive relations with Russia, based on mutual respect and shared interests, to secure the interests of both countries.
Spokesperson Confirms Positive Remarks
Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate, told that the recent remarks of Russian officials have been positive and indicate that they want to keep the door open for engagement with the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. He also highlighted the good diplomatic relations established between the Islamic Emirate and Russia.
Russian President’s Remarks on Engagement
Yesterday, Russian President Vladimir Putin, at a press conference in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, called Russia’s engagement with the interim government of Afghanistan important and significant. Putin emphasized that Moscow’s relations with the interim government are necessary and must be built based on realities.
Removing Islamic Emirate from Terrorist List
Recently, Zamir Kabulov, Russia’s special representative for Afghanistan, and Sergey Lavrov, the country’s Foreign Minister, spoke about removing the Islamic Emirate from Russia’s list of terrorist organizations.
However, the spokesperson for the White House National Security Council reacted negatively to this decision, stating that it will have negative consequences for other countries.
White House Concerns
John Kirby, the spokesperson for the White House National Security Council, said that the Taliban have not fulfilled any of their commitments, particularly in terms of human rights and economic management. He emphasized that the Taliban are not recognized as the official government of Afghanistan, and that Russia’s decision to remove them from the terrorist list will have negative consequences for other countries.
Joint Statement on Peace and Stability
In a joint statement published following the Russian president’s visit to Uzbekistan, establishing peace and stability in Afghanistan was mentioned as a priority for Moscow and Tashkent.
