The Afghan Red Crescent Society (ARCS) has launched a significant initiative in Helmand, providing free eye surgeries to over 270 patients, thanks to funding from Qatar.
Successful Surgeries and Outreach Efforts
Kabul 24: Surgeries were conducted in Lashkargah city and surrounding districts, with ARCS head Fazl Mohammad Fazli reporting a total of 271 successful operations. Additionally, 1,672 patients received outpatient care, 542 pairs of glasses were distributed, and protective sheets were provided to the same number of individuals.
Patient Testimonials Highlight Impact
Many patients expressed gratitude for the initiative. Doctor Mohammad Jaswar Ibrahimkhil noted that some patients had regained sight after being blind for up to eight years. Local residents, including 68-year-old Borjan, shared their struggles with vision issues and financial constraints, emphasizing the importance of this free service.
Continued Need for Eye Care Services
Despite the success of this initiative, ARCS officials acknowledge that many residents in Helmand still suffer from untreated eye conditions. Plans are underway to extend these free treatment efforts to more individuals in need.
