The German Social Democratic Party (SDP) has called for the reopening of Germany’s embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan.
Kabul 24: Nils Schmid, the SDP spokesperson, stated that Germany should send diplomats to Afghanistan and reopen its embassy in Kabul. He argued that sanctions against the interim Taliban government are not beneficial and that reopening the embassy could help improve relations and provide development aid.
Political analysts in Afghanistan welcomed the SDP’s stance, stating that it could help bridge the gap between Afghanistan and the international community, and facilitate the country’s reconstruction efforts.
The deputy spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, Hamdullah Fitrat, also welcomed the SDP’s statements and said the interim government is ready to facilitate the return of German diplomats to Kabul.
This development comes as some other countries, such as Nicaragua, have already appointed non-resident ambassadors to Afghanistan or are considering reopening their embassies in Kabul.
