Hamdullah Fitrat, Deputy Spokesperson of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, announced that a total of 3,046 land plots (parcels) have so far been distributed across various provinces to Afghan migrants who were forcibly deported from Iran and Pakistan.
Kabul 24: In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, January 16, 2026 (26 Jadi 1404), Fitrat stated that the land distribution process has been significantly accelerated following a direct directive from Hibatullah Akhundzada, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Emirate.
The decision was made during a special meeting of the High Commission for Addressing the Problems of Migrants. He added that the Permanent Committee for the Resettlement of Returnees is actively overseeing the allocation of additional plots to the returning families.
The primary objective of the initiative is to provide permanent housing solutions for tens of thousands of Afghan households who have returned—many involuntarily—without shelter, livelihoods, or basic necessities.
According to 2025 figures from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and other humanitarian agencies, more than 5.2 million Afghans returned from Iran and Pakistan during the year, with a large proportion subjected to forced deportations.
The massive influx, especially during the harsh winter season, has placed enormous strain on Afghanistan’s already fragile humanitarian situation, leaving many returnees facing acute shortages of housing, jobs, healthcare, and education services.
Fitrat emphasized that, alongside land distribution, the Islamic Emirate has intensified the delivery of winter assistance packages—including food items, non-food relief supplies, and cash aid—to support returning families in multiple provinces.
The land allocation and accelerated support measures come amid repeated warnings from international organizations about the deepening humanitarian crisis triggered by large-scale returns in winter conditions.
Aid agencies have consistently stressed that without immediate and substantial international support, the living conditions for many of these vulnerable families could deteriorate dramatically.
The Islamic Emirate describes the initiative as part of a broader effort to facilitate dignified and sustainable reintegration for Afghan returnees amid ongoing economic and security challenges in the country.
