Mohammad Khalid Hanafi, the acting Minister of Vice and Virtue, criticized the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) and other organizations for opposing the Law on Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice during a meeting in Sar-e-Pul province.
Kabul 24: Hanafi emphasized that the Islamic Emirate engages with the world strictly within the framework of Sharia, asserting that hijab and Islamic punishments are “red lines” that will not be compromised. He stated, “If the Islamic Emirate interacts with the world, it does so according to the framework of Sharia”.
Local Support for Implementation
Local officials and religious scholars echoed Hanafi’s sentiments, stressing the importance of implementing the newly ratified law and maintaining good conduct with citizens. Sar-e-Pul Governor Mohammad Zarif Muzafar remarked that treating people well is essential to their duties.
Rejection of External Influence
Hanafi and others at the meeting dismissed the influence of human rights organizations, asserting that Afghan women and girls are not represented by these entities. They called for the enforcement of the new law while UNAMA sought clarification on its articles.
