High-Level Committee Formed to Probe Badakhshan Protest

Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate, stated that a committee led by Fasihuddin Fitrat, the Chief of Army Staff of the Islamic Emirate, has been formed to investigate the protests in Badakhshan.

Kabul 24: Zabihullah Mujahid said that some offenders attacked the forces of the Islamic Emirate, which led to the unfortunate events.

“The mentioned committee has been tasked to thoroughly investigate the event and present a complete report to the esteemed office of the Prime Minister,” said Zabihullah Mujahid.

According to the statement of the Islamic Emirate, Shamsuddin Shariat, the head of the pursuit and supervision of orders and decrees, Abdul Haq Akhund, Deputy Minister for Counter-Narcotics at the Ministry of Interior, Rahmatullah Najib, Deputy Director of the General Directorate of Intelligence, and Abdul Momen, head of the Council of Scholars of Badakhshan, are members of this committee.

The Chief of Army Staff, in an audio clip circulating on social media emphasized stopping the protests in Badakhshan.

Fasihuddin Fitrat mentioned that the Islamic Emirate is serious about destroying poppy fields.

“The Islamic Emirate is determined not to allow these demonstrations and will not permit anyone to grow opium and create their own drug trafficking operations,” he said.

On the other hand, several political experts believe that the caretaker government should seriously address the challenges of the residents of Badakhshan, considering their legitimate demands.

Amanullah Hotaki, a political analyst, said: “Our wish as Afghans is that the appointed commission conducts a fair investigation and pays attention to what the people want.”

Syed Akbar Agha, another political analyst, said: “It would be good to gather with the people there and listen to those who have encountered problems or have raised their voices about their issues.”

On Friday, residents of Darayim district and on Saturday residents of Argu district in Badakhshan protested when the security forces of the Islamic Emirate went to these districts to destroy poppy fields and clashed with the local residents, resulting in the death of two civilians, according to local sources.

Political experts believe the caretaker government should seriously address the challenges and legitimate demands of the Badakhshan residents.
