Several international aid organizations have announced plans to provide assistance to the victims of the severe storms and flooding in Nangarhar province, Afghanistan.
Emergency Aid Delivery
Kabul 24: The International Rescue Committee (IRC) has deployed mobile teams to the affected areas to deliver emergency aid, including tents, blankets, and kitchen supplies, to flood victims.
The World Food Programme (WFP) has provided continuous assistance to over 125,000 flood victims in several provinces, including Nangarhar, over the past two months.
Coordination with Afghan Authorities
The Afghan National Disaster Management Authority (ANDMA) is coordinating the emergency response and relief efforts with international organizations like the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
The Ministry of Economy in Afghanistan has also worked with non-governmental organizations to survey the affected areas and ensure immediate aid, including food and shelter, reaches the victims.
Ongoing Challenges
Despite the economic crisis in Afghanistan, where over 23 million people require humanitarian assistance, the country continues to face natural disasters like droughts, floods, storms, and earthquakes that cause significant damage.
Economic affairs expert Mohammad Nabi Afghan has called for the UN and global organizations to develop a strategy to ensure aid reaches those in need.
