Kim’s emphasis on the importance of strengthening the North Korean navy

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has highlighted the critical need to enhance the country’s naval capabilities during a recent inspection of a naval base construction site, as reported by state media KCNA.

Kabul 24: Kim emphasized the urgency of constructing a naval base to accommodate large surface warships and submarines, which cannot be docked at existing facilities. He stated, “The establishment of a naval base for operating these advanced vessels has become an urgent priority” due to the impending acquisition of significant naval assets.

Strategic Geopolitical Location

During his tour, Kim pointed out the geopolitical advantages of the site, which is bordered by the sea on both the east and west.

He stressed the importance of building a port capable of supporting the weapons systems of these warships and revealed plans for deploying anti-aircraft and coastal defense systems to protect the facility. However, the specific location of the base was not disclosed.

Investment in Shipbuilding

In a separate visit to a shipyard, Kim ordered an increase in national investments in shipbuilding initiatives to ensure both immediate and long-term objectives for the industry are met. This move aims to solidify North Korea’s naval capabilities further.

Modernizing Munitions Production

Kim also visited a defense industrial enterprise, where he called for a modernization of munitions production to enhance the effectiveness of newly developed military hardware. He inspected an artillery academy as part of this initiative, focusing on making production more scientific and efficient.

Response to Regional Tensions

In light of recent military activities by the United States and South Korea, North Korea condemned a joint consultation meeting and simulation drill, labeling them as “reckless moves” that threaten regional stability. The North Korean foreign ministry affirmed its commitment to taking practical measures in response to ongoing nuclear confrontations with the U.S..

Continued Provocations

Meanwhile, North Korea has persisted in launching trash balloons into South Korea for the fifth consecutive day, reflecting ongoing tensions in the region.
