The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSRelief) has sent a team of 18 doctors to Herat, Afghanistan, to provide treatment for various eye diseases. The team is expected to treat 4,000 patients and perform surgeries on 400 individuals.
Advanced Treatment and Highly Equipped Team
Kabul 24: Mohammad Asif Siddiqi, the operational head of the Afghan Red Crescent Society in the western zone, stated that the treatment provided by the KSRelief team is on par with the services offered in Karachi, Pakistan. He emphasized the advanced nature of the treatment and the highly equipped team dedicated to helping those with eye problems.
Cooperation with Local Health Center
Fakhruddin Dakar, a representative of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, highlighted the cooperation between the KSRelief team and the staff of the local health center in Herat. He mentioned that the local staff has provided all the necessary facilities to ensure the smooth operation of the medical team.
Focus on Retina Problems and Other Eye Issues
Ershad Abbasi, the chief doctor of the King Salman Charity Foundation’s medical team, revealed that the team primarily focuses on treating patients with retina problems. However, they also attend to patients with itching eyes, red eyes, or low vision issues, providing comprehensive eye care services.
Economic Challenges and Lack of Access to Treatment
Some of the patients treated by the KSRelief team expressed their gratitude for the free medical services provided. They mentioned that due to economic challenges and the inability to afford treatment at private hospitals or abroad, the KSRelief team’s presence in Herat has been a blessing.
Causes of Eye Diseases in Herat
According to the doctors, strong winds with dust, dry air, air pollution, allergies, and aging are the main causes of eye diseases in Herat. The KSRelief team’s efforts to address these issues and provide quality eye care to the people of Herat are commendable
