Mirwais Azizi Launches Major Energy Project in Afghanistan

Mirwais Azizi, a prominent Afghan businessman and head of the Dubai-based Azizi Group, has ventured into the energy sector with the establishment of Azizi Energy Investments.

Kabul 24: Headquartered in Dubai, the company aims to develop large-scale energy projects in emerging markets, particularly in Asia. Its flagship project in Afghanistan, with a capacity to generate 10,000 megawatts of electricity, marks a significant step toward energy self-sufficiency for the country.

According to UAE economic media, Azizi Energy focuses on developing, financing, constructing, and operating diverse energy projects. These include power generation from sources such as coal, natural gas, hydropower, wind, and solar. Additionally, the company will invest in energy infrastructure, including power transmission networks and gas pipelines. This multifaceted approach aims to address the growing energy demands in the region effectively.

In a statement, Mirwais Azizi said, “This investment builds on our legacy in real estate and our commitment to empowering communities through innovative solutions. Azizi Energy will deliver pioneering projects that create long-term value.

We begin this journey in Afghanistan, where our goal is to contribute to generating nearly 10,000 megawatts of electricity, transforming access to power.”

Emirati officials and energy experts view this project as a pivotal move to reduce Afghanistan’s reliance on energy imports and strengthen its domestic infrastructure.

The involvement of international private-sector players is expected to drive economic development and energy stability in the country. This initiative is the second new business line for the Azizi Group in recent years, following its entry into the hospitality industry.

The project is anticipated to not only bolster Afghanistan’s energy infrastructure but also serve as a model for similar investments in other developing nations.

Given the Azizi Group’s proven track record in real estate, this venture has the potential to become a landmark in regional economic development. By leveraging diverse energy sources and robust infrastructure, Azizi Energy is poised to make a lasting impact on Afghanistan’s energy landscape.
