Over 200 schools in Faryab, Afghanistan require urgent reconstruction due to damage from past wars and recent natural disasters. The destruction of these schools has made the educational process difficult for students, forcing them to study in open spaces, rented houses, and mosque corners.
Calls for Assistance
Kabul 24: Residents of Faryab are calling on the Islamic Emirate and aid organizations to provide basic reconstruction, as well as desks, chairs, and safe drinking water for the affected schools. The Director of Education for Faryab has appealed to the central government, aid organizations, traders, and philanthropists to assist in the reconstruction efforts.
Examples of Damaged Schools
One example of a damaged school is the central high school in Dawlatabad district, which is in need of repairs. In total, 200 schools in Faryab have been affected and require reconstruction.
Progress in Faryab’s Education
Despite the challenges, Faryab has seen significant progress in education in recent years. Over 120 new schools have been built in the province with Norwegian development assistance, and 40-50 more are planned for the next two years.
