As part of ongoing efforts to expand job opportunities for Afghan citizens abroad, important discussions are currently taking place in Doha that could mark the beginning of a new chapter in labor cooperation between Afghanistan and Qatar.
Kabul 24: Muhammad Suhail Shaheen, Chargé d’Affaires of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s Embassy in Doha, held a meeting with Abdulhadi Bukhait Barqan, Director of Al Jasoor Company (affiliated with Qatar’s Ministry of Labor).According to Mr. Shaheen, the meeting focused on the effective implementation of the previously signed agreement between Afghanistan’s Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs and Qatar’s Ministry of Labor.
The main objective of this agreement is to facilitate the organized transfer of Afghan workers to Qatar and to establish clear procedures for recruiting qualified and skilled individuals.
Mr. Shaheen stated: “An agreement had already been signed earlier between the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs of the Islamic Emirate and Qatar’s Ministry of Labor. In this meeting, we discussed the full and effective implementation of that agreement.”Economic analysts believe that sending skilled Afghan labor to neighboring and regional countries — particularly Qatar — can have multiple positive effects.
This process not only helps reduce economic pressure and unemployment inside Afghanistan but also contributes significantly to strengthening the national economy through remittances, transfer of technical knowledge, and acquired work experience.
Experts emphasize that the success of such labor migration programs depends heavily on two key factors: Establishing transparent, fair, and well-monitored recruitment and deployment mechanisms
Ensuring the legal rights, decent working conditions, and necessary protections for Afghan workers in the host country
If successfully implemented, this agreement is expected to enable a significant number of young and skilled Afghan workers to travel to Qatar through legal and organized channels.
This initiative could also serve as a model for similar labor cooperation agreements with other countries in the future.
These ongoing consultations reflect the commitment of both Doha and Kabul to deepen economic and labor ties under the current circumstances, and could represent a turning point in alleviating economic hardships for Afghan citizens while strengthening bilateral relations.
