The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and Turkey have been actively engaged in supporting Afghanistan and discussing ways to address the country’s pressing issues. Here are the key developments:
OIC Special Envoy Meets with Turkish Officials
Kabul 24: The special representative of the OIC Secretary-General to Afghanistan, Ambassador Tariq Ali Bakhit, recently met with Turkey’s Deputy Foreign Minister and Director General for South Asia. Both sides emphasized their support for the Afghan people and discussed the Doha process on Afghanistan, constructive talks with the interim government officials regarding girls’ education, women’s rights, counter-terrorism efforts, and humanitarian issues.
OIC’s Role in Afghanistan
The OIC has been working in accordance with the decisions of the Council of Foreign Ministers regarding Afghanistan. However, some experts believe that the OIC’s role has been minimal and relatively insignificant in resolving Afghanistan’s challenges, especially sanctions and other problems.
Political analyst Moeen Gul Samkani suggests that the OIC group, which includes Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, and Turkey, can initially establish stability among themselves and eventually lead to a meeting.
Turkey’s Engagement with Afghanistan
Turkey has been actively engaged with Afghanistan and has called for the OIC to mobilize global support for the country. Turkish officials have emphasized that engagement with the Taliban is necessary to achieve stability.
Turkey has also been delivering humanitarian aid to Afghanistan, reaching at least thirteen of the country’s thirty-four provinces. Several Turkish NGOs, such as Red Crescent, IHH, and the Turkish Maarif Foundation, have been actively involved in providing aid and supporting education in Afghanistan.
The OIC and Turkey’s continued efforts to support Afghanistan and engage with the interim government are crucial in addressing the country’s pressing issues and ensuring stability.
