Maulawi Chancellor Osmani, Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock has said that poppy cultivation in Afghanistan has reached zero.
Osmani made this statement no Sunday, 6th of Gemini, in a meeting with Fazel Akin Erdogan, the head of “TIKA” Institute in Kabul.
According to Kabul 24, he has called for the cooperation of countries and aid organizations to provide an alternative to poppy cultivation to farmers in the country.
This government official added: “Poppy cultivation has ended in Afghanistan, but the farmers’ economy has weakened and they need more help.”
Bakhtar news agency has reported, quoting the head of the Tika Institute in Afghanistan, that this institution will cooperate in providing alternative poppy cultivation to the farmers.
Meanwhile, Abdulsalam Hanafi, the economic deputy of the prime minister’s office, said during a meeting in Kabul that in the last 20 years, five million citizens of the country, including one million women and children, have become addicted to drugs.
On Sunday, 6th of Gemini, Hanafi said that the group’s decision to prevent poppy cultivation in the country is serious.
