Pakistan Airstrike Targets Kabul Drug Rehab Center, Dozens of Civilians Killed

Zabihullah Mujahid, the official spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, announced via a post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that Pakistan’s military regime has once again violated Afghan airspace and sovereignty.

Kabul 24: According to Mujahid, on the evening of Monday, March 16, 2026, Pakistani fighter jets entered Afghan territory and deliberately targeted a drug rehabilitation hospital (also referred to as a treatment center for addicts) in the capital, Kabul.Mujahid stated that the facility was a dedicated medical center providing treatment and rehabilitation services to hundreds of individuals struggling with drug addiction.

The airstrike resulted in a significant number of civilian casualties, with many patients—most of whom were under medical care for addiction killed (described as “martyred”) and others seriously wounded. Reports from Afghan sources, including later statements and media coverage, indicate heavy casualties, with figures cited in some accounts reaching over 200 killed and more than 400 injured, though initial descriptions emphasized “a large number” of non-combatant victims.

The spokesperson strongly condemned the incident in the harshest terms, calling it a grave war crime and an inhumane act that flagrantly violates all accepted international principles, including humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions.

He described the targeting of a civilian medical facility and defenseless patients as a clear anti-human crime, accusing Pakistan of showing complete disregard for international norms and deliberately seeking to spread insecurity and civilian bloodshed in Afghanistan. This latest attack occurs amid escalating border tensions between the two countries.

Pakistan has conducted multiple previous cross-border strikes often justified as operations against militant groups—while Afghan authorities have repeatedly protested such actions as violations of sovereignty and attacks on civilians. The strike on a sensitive treatment center in the heart of Kabul marks a particularly alarming escalation, drawing widespread condemnation and raising fears of further retaliation.

Mujahahid affirmed that the Islamic Emirate will not leave this aggression unanswered and reserves the right to defend its territory and citizens. He also called on the international community and human rights organizations to break their silence, hold Pakistan accountable for repeated violations of Afghan sovereignty, and prevent further civilian suffering.

This tragic event once again underscores the urgent need for mutual respect for borders, de-escalation through dialogue, and an end to unilateral military actions that continue to claim innocent Afghan lives amid ongoing regional instability.
