Pakistani media outlets have reported the initiation of a process detaining migrants without legal documents by the police in the country.
Kabul 24: According to Geo News, this process began on Wednesday, November 1st, in cities such as Karachi, Rawalpindi, and other parts of Pakistan. The police have detained undocumented migrants and subsequently transferred them to “detention centers.”
The report states that at least five thousand migrants and asylum seekers without legal documents have been detained by Pakistani police and transferred to detention centers.
It is mentioned that some police forces have reached the “Sohrab Goth” area in Karachi and are warning migrants and asylum seekers through loudspeakers to return to their own countries by midnight tonight.
Local authorities of the Pakistani police in the Chaman region have also confirmed that they have detained dozens of undocumented migrants and transferred them to detention centers.
Pakistani authorities have clarified that undocumented migrants and asylum seekers, after going through legal procedures, will be returned to their respective countries.
The deadline set by the Pakistani government for migrants without legal documents in the country ended on Tuesday, October 31st.
Sarfraz Bugti, the interim Interior Minister of Pakistan, has announced that starting from Thursday, November 2nd, the process of detaining all illegal migrants throughout Pakistan will commence.
