Kabul 24: The Acting Minister of Public Health, Noor Jalal Jalali, emphasized the ministry’s commitment to eradicating polio in Afghanistan through continued vaccination campaigns and health services. Jalali urged religious scholars, elders, parents, and influential community members to support the vaccinators and participate in the fight against polio to keep their children healthy.
Importance of Immunization
There is no cure for polio, and it can only be prevented through immunization. The polio vaccine, given multiple times, can protect a child for life, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). The vaccination campaign is crucial in preventing the spread of the wild polio virus in Afghanistan.
Campaign Objectives and Timeline
The nationwide campaign will run from June 3 to June 6, targeting over 11.2 million children under the age of five. The campaign aims to protect these children from the polio virus and contribute to the global effort to eradicate polio
