Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held an extended meeting on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Astana, Kazakhstan on Wednesday.
Kabul 24: During the talks, which lasted over an hour, the two leaders discussed a range of issues, including the situations in Ukraine and Syria, as well as bilateral relations between Russia and Turkey.
Erdogan told Putin that Turkey could help establish a basis to end the Ukraine-Russia war and that a fair peace suiting both sides was possible. The Turkish president also emphasized the need to end the conflict in Gaza.
The meeting was held in a delegation format, with the possibility of a one-on-one discussion if necessary. Erdogan also invited Putin to visit Turkey, and the date for such a trip may be discussed during the meeting.
The Kremlin acknowledged that while various problems inevitably arise in extensive working relationships, there is a political will to address them, and the necessary level of bilateral relations and trade and economic cooperation is present between Russia and Turkey
