Russia’s Stance on Afghanistan: IEA Grip Crucial for Stability

Russia’s Special Presidential Representative for Afghanistan, Zamir Kabulov, emphasized the importance of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) maintaining control over the country, stating that any disintegration of Afghanistan would have severe negative consequences across the region.
IEA Control Crucial for Russia

Kabul 24: “We believe that this government is holding consistent control over the country. This is fundamentally important for us,” Kabulov said on Rossiya-24 television channel, as reported by TASS news agency. He highlighted the significance of the IEA’s control in maintaining stability in the region.

Economic Cooperation Opportunities

Kabulov also discussed potential economic cooperation between Russia and Afghanistan, focusing on the export of oil products and ensuring food security. “Ensuring the basic essentials for the Afghan economy in the broad sense of this word. Of course, they are oil products, but far beyond that,” he said when asked about the forms of economic cooperation.

Food Security a Key Topic

Kabulov noted that food security is another key area of discussion for the Afghan authorities, aiming to enhance cooperation and ensure the supply of essential foodstuffs. This cooperation could play a significant role in stabilizing the Afghan economy.

International Recognition of IEA

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov recently stated that the initiative to remove the IEA from the list of terrorist organizations “reflects awareness of reality.” Earlier, Kabulov told TASS that Russia’s Foreign and Justice Ministries had briefed President Vladimir Putin on the possibility of removing the IEA from the list of banned organizations.

Putin’s Emphasis on Building Relations

On May 28, Putin emphasized the need to build relations with the IEA, given their current power in Afghanistan and control over the country. This stance reflects Russia’s commitment to engaging with the IEA and fostering stability in the region.
