Taliban detains Austrian far-right activist after arriving in Kabul

The Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed the arrest of an Austrian national by the Taliban.

Kabul24: The individual was detained after arriving in Kabul earlier this year, the Associated Press reports.

According to the Austrian newspaper Der Standard, the man, identified as Herbert F, is known to be a far-right activist in his 80 and a co-founder of a political party which was banned in 1988.

Before his arrest, he is reported to have authored an article titled “Vacation with the Taliban” apparently portraying the Taliban rule in a positive light.

Herbert F, according to Der Standard, has travelled to dangerous places, including Afghanistan in the 1980 and Syria to witness the Kurds fighting the Islamic States.

The Taliban has not commented.
