The Federal Investigation Agency of Pakistan has installed a visa verification system at the Torkham border aimed at curbing the illegal entry of Afghans into the country.
Kabul 24: As reported by the Pakistani newspaper Dawn on Tuesday, October 24th, quoting Yashar Arafat, an official from the Federal Investigation Agency of Pakistan, this new system expedites the entry process for Afghans possessing valid legal documents while cracking down on human trafficking activities through the Torkham border.
Arafat revealed that an organized network of human smugglers had been actively involved in smuggling undocumented Afghans into Pakistan, posing significant “security threats” to the nation.
He further explained that the implementation of the new system empowers Pakistani immigration officials to meticulously examine and identify forged travel documents, thereby enhancing border security measures.
This initiative coincides with the Pakistani government’s directive for all undocumented refugees, estimated to be around 1.7 million individuals, to depart the country by November of this year.
According to Pakistani media reports, a total of 59,561 Afghan refugees have voluntarily returned to their home country from Pakistan as part of these measures.
